Leaving the bright lights behind

20 Sep 2012 (Thursday) Las Vegas, Nevada - Cedar City, Utah - 183 miles

Once again, we didn't hurry to get out of the hotel as we knew we only had a short day ahead of us.  We also knew we were going to lose an hour as we went back from Pacific Time in Nevada to Mountain Time in Utah.  Arizona is on Pacific Time at this time of year as it the one State, I think, that doesn't change its clocks in spring and autumn.

After loading the car we managed to find our way to a petrol station where we refuelled.  From there it was only a few yards to the I-15.  We took the Interstate north and after leaving Las Vegas continued up to the border with Arizona about 80 miles away.  We crossed the 28 miles through Arizona and on into Utah and altered our watches!  The route north continued on the I-15 for a further 60 miles to Cedar City which we reached in little under 3 hours.

We easily found the Days Inn, which appeared to be a relatively modern building and checked into rooms facing away from the main road.  By now it was mid-afternoon and we were all hungry and so we headed into the historical centre of Cedar City for a late lunch.  By chance we found a bakery/delicatessen called the Great Harvest Bread Company that served sandwiches, cakes and cookies.  All the bread was hand-produced on the premises and we all got beautifully freshly made sandwiches.  The owner, who was clearly an anglophile, insisted we had a slice of chocolate chip pumkin bread which also proved to be delicious.  Having eaten all this, he then appeared with a large cinnamon bun which he'd cut into four and once again insisted we eat it.   As a result, we ordered sandwiches for the following day which we arranged to collect at 7.30 next morning.

We returned to the hotel, stuffed!  A bit later, we went downstairs and had a swim and lounge in the jacuzzi.  Still feeling somewhat full, we drove down into town later in the evening and had a quick snack.  On the way back to the hotel, we refuelled the car ready for the morning.

Hotel - Days Inn
Weather - Clear skies, sunny and hot 98F, in Vegas, a little cooler at Cedar City.
