Pahrump and Judicial elections

23 Sep 2012 (Sunday) St George, Utah - Pahrump Nevada - 184 miles

After a late start, we headed back down the I-15 South and after 8 miles crossed back into Arizona and changed back again from Mountain Time to Pacific Time.  After a further 28 miles we left Arizona and entered Nevada again.

Two hours later and we were back in Las Vegas, this time skirting around the 'Strip' and not far from McCarron Airport turned west onto the SR-160.  I'd got my time zones entirely confused and thought it was lunch time, so we stopped and ordered lunch in Subway.  At this juncture, we realised we should have put the clocks back rather than forward and were in fact eating lunch at 11am!

After a mooch around the shopping mall, we set off again heading west and after about an hour arrived in Pahrump.  This delightfully named town was larger than we were expecting and the hotel we had booked, the Saddle West Casino, Hotel and RV Park turned out to be a really good hotel.  The rooms were large and faced into a large shaded grassy courtyard well away from the Casino.

Later in the afternoon, Lynn and I went to visit Ash Valley State Wildlife Reserve about 25 miles outside Pahrump.  As we left the main road, we joined a gravelled road that ran for 4 miles, dead-straight, across the valley floor.  The we turned off down a side road and noticed a sign that said the gate to the road closed automatically at dark.  As the sun was rapidly sinking, we made a short 1.5 mile journey to the end of the track and walked around a boardwalk at the end.  We saw a couple of white-tailed Jack Rabbits there and a Road-Runner along the road.

As we drove back up this side road we met the Park Ranger coming to make sure no-one was trapped in the park!  Driving back to Pahrump it was getting dark, but we stopped to take a photo of the sunset and also of a road called Stephanie and an advertising notice for the forthcoming elections in November in which Judge Kim Wanker was hoping to get re-elected!

We pushed the boat out in the evening and went to Panda Express for dinner.  Ken and I stopped for a drink in the Casino when we got back too.  Prices here were pretty normal and not like Las Vegas prices.

Hotel - Saddle West Casino, Hotel and RV Park
Weather - Partly cloudy to start with, but very warm. Skies cleared and temperature got into high 90s later
