Another fairly lazy day. After a late start, we walked down the 'strip' again this time on the northern side. We caught the tram up to Excalibur, then walked past New York, New York and on past Aria and Monte Carlo where we crossed over to Planet Hollywood. Here we found a shopping mall with fairly normal shops and food outlets. Having decided to eat at Panda Express, we discovered that there was a 'rainstorm' due to take place inside the mall on the hour. The overhead lights dimmed slowly, then lightening started and rumbles of thunder, then torrential rain fell from the roof into a pool! It all lasted about 5 minutes then back to normal!
Many of the hotels have shows, Bellagios has musical fountains, New York, New York has a rollercoaster wrapped around the buildings, at Paris it is possible to ride to the top of the Eiffel Tower and another used to feature a battle between pirate ships floating on a lake outside the hotel with one of the ships sinking at the end! All the hotels have theatrical show of one description or another, currently you can see Rod Stewart, Penn and Teller and many other famous names from the celebraty world. Most are heavily booked up and quite expensive $100-150 for a seat.
After lunch, we crossed the 'strip' again and went into Bellagios, as we were entering the hotel, a long line of 'hot-rods' noisily processed down the 'strip'. Inside Bellagios, we visited the conservatory where there was an autumn display including hundred of Chrysanthemums and squashes. Some of the pumpkins weighed in at over 800lbs. As an added attraction, theyt have a talking tree! After a brief look at Caesers Palace, we returned to the Luxor.
In the evening we walked back up to the Mall at Planet Hollywood and met Rob Hume for dinner. He, coincidentally, happened to be at Nellis AFB for a few days! I'd worked with Rob at Digby in the 1990s and later in the USA. After a pleasant dinner and natter we wandered back down to the hotel and bed.
